Voice First
Every writer deserves to sound like themselves. Premise helps shape your ideas — never your voice. What you publish reads like you wrote it, because you did.
About
Premise helps novelists plan and finish their books — with structure, memory, and honest feedback. The story is always yours; we just help you hold all of it at once.
We believe great stories start with great structure — and that creativity thrives when it's supported by clarity, not control. Premise gives writers of every level the framework to grow an idea into a finished book, with confidence.
What we stand for
Every writer deserves to sound like themselves. Premise helps shape your ideas — never your voice. What you publish reads like you wrote it, because you did.
We guide your process with clarity and consistency — the scaffolding of a book — without ever boxing you in. Keep what helps; ignore the rest.
We value honesty over hype. Every feature is explained plainly, so you always know exactly what Premise is doing and why — no magic, no black boxes.
Your projects are private and secure. You own your words, your data, and your creative direction. We never train AI on your work.
Where we stand on AI
We're writers too, and we share the skepticism. So we're precise about what the AI in Premise does — and the lines it does not cross. A book made with Premise is written with it, never by it.
What it does
What it never does
Our pledge: your work is private by default and is never used to train AI. You own everything you make with Premise. See the Privacy Policy.
How we got here
Premise started as one writer's own solution — a way to plan a book without losing the thread. It grew from a private workflow into a full story pipeline: premise, world, characters, threads, plot, chapter maps, scenes, and drafts.
Premise is opening to writers everywhere — with story-health tools like foreshadowing tracking, arc tracking, and coherence checks built in. The private tool becomes something any novelist can pick up.
A note from the founder
Premise began as a personal solution — a way to make my own creative work less overwhelming and more achievable. I wanted the structure of a book held in one place, and continuity I didn't have to keep entirely in my head, so I could spend my energy on the writing itself.
Premise is independently built and run by one person, under Foglight Story Systems. There's no committee and no buzzword roadmap — every feature ships because a writer needed it, and the writer is usually me. That independence is the point: it's how I can promise the tool answers to authors, not to hype.
My goal is simple: to help you finish what you start, in your own voice. You're the author. Premise just helps you carry the whole thing at once.
