The author is a person. That person is you.
We're writers too, and we share the skepticism. So we're precise about what the AI in Premise does — and the lines it does not cross. A book made with Premise is written with it, never by it.
What it does
- Builds structure. Turns a premise into a world, characters, threads, beats, and chapter maps you can shape and approve.
- Keeps continuity. Remembers what you’ve established and tracks it across the whole book, so details stay consistent.
- Runs coherence checks. Surfaces plot holes, dropped threads, and foreshadowing that never pays off — as suggestions, for you to judge.
- Offers starting points. Drafts and outlines you refine in your own voice — a first pass to react to, never the final word.
What it never does
- Replace your voice. Premise won’t overwrite how you write. Tone, style, and every final choice stay with you.
- Claim authorship. The AI is a tool, not a co-author. Your name goes on the book; it made none of the decisions that matter.
- Write your novel for you. It helps you write yours — it doesn’t hand you someone else’s and call it done.
- Learn from your pages. Your manuscript is never used to train AI — not ours, not anyone’s.

How we got here
A short history
A personal tool
Premise started as one writer's own solution — a way to plan a book without losing the thread. It grew from a private workflow into a full story pipeline: premise, world, characters, threads, plot, chapter maps, scenes, and drafts.
Launching to writers
Premise is opening to writers everywhere — with story-health tools like foreshadowing tracking, arc tracking, and coherence checks built in. The private tool becomes something any novelist can pick up.
A note from the founder
Built by a writer, for writers.
Premise began as a personal solution — a way to make my own creative work less overwhelming and more achievable. I wanted the structure of a book held in one place, and continuity I didn't have to keep entirely in my head, so I could spend my energy on the writing itself.
Premise is independently built and run by one person, under Foglight Story Systems. There's no committee and no buzzword roadmap — every feature ships because a writer needed it, and the writer is usually me. That independence is the point: it's how I can promise the tool answers to authors, not to hype.
My goal is simple: to help you finish what you start, in your own voice. You're the author. Premise just helps you carry the whole thing at once.
